Goo Shrine
護王神社
A shrine on Karasuma-dori facing the west side of Kyoto Gyoen, moved here in 1886 by order of Emperor Meiji. It enshrines the Nara-period courtier Wake no Kiyomaro, who in legend was protected by wild boars, so boar statues stand in place of guardian lions.
